Thanksgiving Closing
It's time for Thanksgiving, and while you don't have to go home, you can't stay in Piano Row. Here's the info you need to know about Thanksgiving Closing.1. Piano Row closes at noon on Wednesday, November 26th and will reopen at noon on Sunday, November 30th. Late departures/early arrivals will not be allowed under ANY circumstances.
2. You will not have access to Piano Row during vacation times.
3. An inspection of all rooms and furnishings will be conducted by the Office of Housing & Residence Life and/or the Facilities Management Department over the break. Any residence hall violations (damage to rooms, upholstered furniture, drapes, candles, alcohol, etc) will be documented in your absence.
VERY IMPORTANT CLOSING INFORMATION!
Before you leave:
- Sign out at the front desk upon your departure
- Close and secure all windows in your room
- Do not turn off radiators
- Unplug all electrical devices in your room, except fish tanks
- Turn off all lights
- Empty all trash and perishable items before you leave
- Lock your door, take your keys and ID card with you.

Emerson Expressions
The ‘Expressions’ Group is an opportunity for students to come together and to ask, reflect upon, and respond to BIG Questions. Some questions might be:
- What does it mean to grow up?
- What is authenticity?
- What do you yearn for?
- What are your Ultimate Goals?
- What is an advocate?
- How do you define home?
- Who is family?
- What is exclusion / inclusion?
- How do you find your voice?
- What inspires you?
- When do you feel alive?
Since expression is necessary to evolution, this is a great way to come together, to think deeply about who you are, and of course, to express that.

The Cornucopia of Creativity!
The Writer's Block and Performing Cultures learning communities will be hosting The Cornucopia of Creativity this weekend, a 24-hour playwriting competition. Residents can sign up in teams or individually down at the Piano Row Desk. Kickoff will take place Friday at 6pm, when residents will be given their prompt for the playwriting, and the performances will be Saturday at 6pm in the Cabaret (in the Little Building). Prizes and free food will be at the performance!

Hall Council Elections: Thurs. Sept. 25 9am-9pm
We have a great group of students running for piano row hall council. Take a look at their candidate statements, and be sure to VOTE at the Piano Row Desk on Thursday, Sept 25 from 9am to 9pm. You'll need your ID to vote!
PRESIDENT
Alyssa Campbell: My name is Alyssa Campbell, and I am running for President of Piano Row Hall Council. Throughout the year I would like to organize events such as dances and floor wars to bring students together and have fun! In addition, I believe that working with charities to provide for the less fortunate is an important and necessary aspect of the college experience, and would make sure that each student has the opportunity, if desired, to take part in the task of helping those in need. I am qualified for this position because of my leadership experience as a restaurant manager and high school swimming captain. I am confident in my ability to satisfy the needs to every Emerson student living in the Piano Row Residence Hall and promise to make this year’s on-campus experience the best it can be. Please remember to vote for me, Alyssa Campbell, for President of Hall Council!
Nicholas Forgue: As Piano Row Hall Council President, I could organize fun fundraisers, clubs for Piano Row residents (such as poker clubs and movie clubs). Also, I would like to organize sporting events for the residents (ultimate Frisbee, dogeball, etc.). I just want the students in this building to get to know each other, and I am very open to all ideas.

I’m a sophomore film major, and I am determined to make Piano Row a more fun, safe, and exciting place to live! I’m running for Vice President of our Hall Council, and I am already planning lots of entertaining events for everyone to enjoy. Through fundraisers, dances, and other activities, I promise to make you all proud to live here in Piano Row. Looking forward to Halloween? If I’m elected VP, a pre-Halloween Dance will be in the works! Hate having to use the elevator to get from the lobby to your suite? Upward stair access will become a priority if and when I become VP. Not only that, but T-shirts, suite wars, and a new Piano Row suggestion box are all on my agenda. I’m about making proactive changes to the Piano Row environment and enhancing the school year for all. Having live in both the Little Building and here, I know the truth as to which the better building … so help me make it the best it can be! Everyone from the Little Building argues that the social community over there I so much better because you don’t have the suite layout. Bryan Chabrow: My name is Bryan Chabrow, and I would like to be your Hall Council secretary. I’m a social, easy-going, confident and fun-loving person who wants to help make our residence hall as good as it can be. I’m a freshman WLP major from Northern Virginia, and I love all that Emerson and Boston have to offer. I’ve help positions of this nature in the past and I feel that I could manage the role of secretary very well. The main reason why I would like to be a Hall Council officer is because I often hear people complaining about how Piano Row is not as social as Little Building. I’d like to help change that by forming a stronger community amongst the residents of Piano Row. I have a lot of ideas and thoughts and I would love to be able to give back to my school and residence hall by being Hall Council Secretary.
Natasha Marquez: Hey P-Row Residents! My name is Natasha Marquez, and I’m a sophomore marketing major living in suit 301. As you all know a new year has started and it’s time to make new friends to have unforgettable moments with. This is the main purpose of the hall council, making the residents gather together in fun activities. I want to become secretary of P-Row’s Hall Council because I’m ready to plan awesome events for us here in Piano Row. I think that with my academic background as well as my enthusiasm and creativity, this is a perfect role for me! Some ideas I have for this year are dances, several fundraisings (maybe involving Starbucks/ Ben & Jerry’s), a Halloween party, more intense floor wars, and more! I am ready to listen to suggestions to make this an awesome year for all of us! Vote for me as secretary!
Anna Trachtman: My name is Anna Trachtman, and I am running for secretary of the Piano Row Hall Council. I am a highly organized and responsible person who will work hard if elected. My most important job is communication, and it will take top priority in my work. As secretary, I will help to come up with fun and interesting events for our hall, and I will find artistic ways to make sure that everyone knows about them. Some of my ideas include Cooking Nights, where you will learn new and fun recipes that you can do right here in P-Row. I would also love to have more movie and television nights where you can share your interests and meet the people who love what you love . I also support the idea that we should all know about each other’s backgrounds, so I hope to begin a tradition of Culture Nights. Culture Nights combine food, movies, and activities to teach each other about where we come from, be it another town, another state, or any other country. I also hope to bring about more resources for students living on campus, with everything from cleaning supplies you can rent out to workshops about recycling and getting along with your roommates. I know that I will be a great choice for Secretary. I am a trained stage manager, so you know that my note taking skills have to be good. I promise there wont be a detail left out from my minutes, just in case you happen to miss a meeting. You can count on me to be a choice in the council who cares about what everyone wants. Trust that I won’t let you down! I hope to get your vote on the 25th!

I want to make this school year more fun and exciting as the Hall Council Treasurer! Unlike the typical Emerson student, I’m great with numbers and will plan many fundraisers that will increase the group’s budget, allowing even more elaborate events. Possible fundraisers I would like to hold would be P-Row t-shirts to show off our building’s unity and candy grab-bags for holiday mailbox surprises! I also have lots of other great ideas to bring to the table! If elected, I will strongly voice my ideas for more intricate hall/floor wars, raffles, dances, and events on the Boston Common. I even want to try to gain upward stair access for residents who want to avoid waiting in long elevator lines. With this position, I can also help students’ ideas and concerns be heard in the council. If you have any ideas or questions, don’t hesitate to stop by my suite. This is supposed to be the most exciting time of our lives, and I will do my best to make it happen! So if you want an amazing experience on-campus, vote for me, Meaghan Corson, as Piano Row Hall Council Treasurer!

We at OHRL hope to make your time in Piano Row rewarding and fun. This blog is going to help you find ways to enjoy your residential experience and take advantage of all it has to offer by letting you know of all the amazing opportunities in the building and on campus! You may find postings about RA programs, lectures, Floor Wars, leadership opportunities, jobs, community service, campus events, parties, dances, and more.
